Table Skittles

Table Skittles or Devil Against the Tailors
This indoor version of skittles first appeared in the 1700s. In 1783, some theatre-goers and tailors rioted at the Theatre Royal in Haymarket over a play that the tailors found insulting. The Dragoons were called in to suppress the rioting, which they did in such an enthusiastic way that their method was compared to the wooden ball ploughing through Table skittles. After this incident, Table Skittles was often referred to as 'Devil Amongst the Tailors'.
In Table Skittles, 9 small skittles are positioned on a square raised base. The player then swings a wooden ball clockwise behind the mast, the objective being to knock over the skittles as it returns to the player. First to player to 101 points wins.
