BRITISH PUB BAR BILLIARDS

Can be played by 2, 3, or 4 players

OBJECTIVE
To beat your opponent(s) by accumulating the highest score by potting (sinking) balls in the holes on the table. Each hole is designated its own score as shown by the layout on the backboard. It is a timed game lasting 12-17 minutes

How to play

Place a game token in the slot and pull the handle out fully to release the balls (there should be 7 white balls and 1 red one). Start Position: Place one white ball on the white spot (A), a red ball on next spot (B). The black wooden skittle on third spot (C) and the two white skittles on spots (E).

Each players turn is called a "BREAK". The first player's break begins by playing the white ball from point A onto the red ball with the object of sinking (potting) either or both, WITHOUT knocking down a skittle.

If both balls are holed from start position, or if all balls are holed during game, the player resets the table as in the start position and their break continues.

If a player pots one ball, they select another ball from the rack and the break continues. From now on the cue ball can be played from anywhere in the "D" (the black semi-circle). If no balls are potted or any foul shot is committed (see Foul Shots) their break is finished. Play continues with the next player who takes a ball from the rack and plays it from the "D".

If there are no more balls in the rack play continues by taking the ball NEAREST TO PLAYER on the table and playing it from the 'D'.

Score is kept according to potting balls into the marked holes. Red ball counts DOUBLE.

When the time has run out a bar will drop preventing the return of any balls, the game continues as before, with the exception of the last ball. For the final shot the two white skittles are placed in the "50" holes. The black skittle to be left standing.

The last ball must be played from the starting point (A), off one of the side cushions, direct into the "100" or "200" hole. This shot shall count "100" or "200" if played with a white ball and "200" or "400" if with the red ball. Each player has the right to play final shot until the ball is potted. If on this shot the black skittle is knocked down the entire score is erased.

The player not striking the ball should position himself to stop the ball entering the "10", "20" or "30" holes. This can be assisted by dropping the back board onto the table.

Rules

1. Foul Shots

The following shots lose the break and erase the entire score of the break!

(a) Failing to hit a ball (except on last ball).

(b) Any ball returning over baulk line or into the 'D'. If a ball comes to rest in the 'D' it should be removed and used as the next cue ball.

(c) Any ball jumping onto a cushion or falling off the table.

(d) Knocking down a White skittle.

(e) Knocking down the Black skittle. NOTE - this foul erases entire score of the player (or team) from the beginning of the game! If, however, a White skittle is knocked down first and then the ball knocks down the Black skittle, only the White skittle penalty applies.

(f) At any time during a game, if a player pots both the red and white ball from the start position 3 times consecutively, they are barred from potting both balls again on their fourth start. If they pot both balls again , their entire break score is erased.

2. If a skittle is knocked down by a ball and the ball prevents the skittle from being replaced on its spot the ball shall be removed and the skittle replaced before the next shot.

3. If any skittle is knocked off its spot without falling, the player does not lose his break but the skittle must be replaced on the spot before the next shot is taken.

4. If during a break a ball on the lip of the hole shall fall in without being touched, this shall be added to the break; should this occur at end of a break and the score has been recorded, the ball does not count.

5. If at the start of a break a ball on the lip of a hole shall fall in after the player has struck his cue ball, this ball does not count as a score and the break continues.

6. The player having scores to his credit when the last ball is to be played into the centre hole will not lose his break score if he fails to hole the ball, nor if he miscues and ball goes out of the 'D'.

7. If no final shot into centre hole is to be played (i.e.last shot potted all remaining balls) scores will count as final.
